In 2018 Dale achieved the Champion for Novice Orchids trophy. He is a member of the Hawkesbury Orchid Society as well as a committee member 2018.
Val an Dale Irving wih toy poodle Ollie moved to Riverside Gardens in May 2015. Since retiring, Dale has directed his energy to things of a horticultural nature. This interest originally emerged from a time in Tasmania during the 70s when Dale produced roses on a large scale. He says it is in the genes, because both his parents were avid gardeners.
Val enjoys receiving the fruits of Dale’s labour, and loves their home being filled with colour and perfume.
Dale relocated to NSW and became very involved in growing Bonsai plants which he grew for a number of years.
After moving to Riverside Gardens, Dale found he had more spare time because he no longer had the worry of cleaning gutters and repairs and maintenance problems. This meant he could spend more time outdoors.
Dale’s latest passion is orchids. Although the garden is smaller because the Irvings have downsized, every space is utilised. Orchids of all shapes, sizes and coours abound. Dale says the more unique types are difficult to maintain in this climate.
Val and Dale say they love their life at Riverside Gardens and look forward to many more years of happiness together.
